See, gender inequality is not innate; it is a learnt or taught trait. Gender inequality is an idea and situation that women and men are not equal. It is a perception that has been there since time immemorial. This is arguably caused by socially constructed differences in “gender roles”.

It is because of these distinctions that we are now faced with the challenges that are there of trying to see who is who, where or who can perform and deliver better than the other in most if not all facets of life. Thinking about it, I beg to ask these questions, have we empowered women too much to the point of disregarding the man as the head? Have we isolated the boy child thus making them entirely back off from growing up to become the men they are destined to be? We need to be cautious about this because at the end of the day we need both genders to be able to co-exist and perform to the best of our abilities without one feeling superior or inferior to the other.

“We are all different, male and female, and that’s beautiful”

“Gender equality is more than a goal in itself. It is a precondition for meeting the challenge of reducing poverty, promoting sustainable development and building good governance.”  ~Kofi Annan
